Luxury living options in the Triangle have expanded with the newest addition of The Carolinian on Glenwood in Raleigh.
Plans for the apartment community, which is Inside the Beltline and seated at the intersection of Glenwood Avenue and Oberlin Road, overlooking the Carolina Country Club, were announced in February 2016. The complex is now ready for residents to move in.
The project was developed through a partnership between Florida-based Stiles Residential Group and Grubb Ventures of Raleigh, with Clancy & Theys Construction Company as the builder. Grubb purchased the property in 2012 from Kip-Dell Homes for $2.4 million. He continued to manage the 28-unit apartment complex until construction began on The Carolinian. Grubb Ventures CEO Gordon Grubb had said after purchasing the land that while redevelopment was inevitable, plans would be determined based on market demand. The site had been pegged for redevelopment decades before as a hotel, but plans were rejected after opposition from nearby residents.
Now, the site has evolved to a 186-unit luxury apartment complex with 18 different floorplans. According to The Carolinian’s website, the smallest, and cheapest, floorplan is a 611-square-foot, one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment that starts at $1,427. Its most expensive unit is a three-bedroom, two-bathroom, 1,755-square-foot apartment that starts at $3,419. The building is five stories tall, and the website shows a handful of units have already been reserved, primarily on the first and fifth floors.
The complex offers 20,000 square feet of space for indoor and outdoor amenities, including a rooftop lounge with views of the golf course, executive conference room, three lounges, a 2,500-square-foot fitness center and a salt water pool. It also has an indoor play area for dogs with a grooming area.
Grubb Ventures will oversee management of the community. The firm has developed other high-end communities, such as the nearby Gardens on Glenwood condominiums, The Oaks at Fallon Park, 401 Oberlin apartments and Sojourn Lake Boone.
